LaVern Arnetta McNeese, director of our Springfield Chapter, spends most of her time serving as a wife, mother and church worker. She has been married for 32 years to Wesley McNeese, M.D., the pastor of New Mission Church of God. She is the mother of four daughters — Safiya, Omega, Libra and Aziza — and she has three energetic grandchildren.

Along with performing several jobs in the church, LaVern has been working to launch the Springfield Chapter of Priscilla's Lost and Found, a mentoring ministry for women in transition. Essentially, the program partners Christian women with needy women for a one-year commitment in an effort to uplift and help guide them through a potentially difficult and vulnerable period.

Although LaVern earned both bachelor and master's degrees with a major in journalism from Southern Illinois University, it has been a while since she worked in a position directly related to her field of study. She now uses those learned skills to help further the growth of God's kingdom and to nurture her family.
